Keeping Us Waiting, Huh?
Konami pulled the classic “good news, bad news.” Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater still launches on August 28, 2025, but its new online mode, Fox Hunt, won’t be there on day one-it’s slated for fall 2025 as a post-launch update. Disappointing if you planned to squad up at launch, but at least the timing is clear.
So, What Exactly Is “Fox Hunt”?
This isn’t a revival of Metal Gear Online. Fox Hunt is a new, stealth-first multiplayer designed by director Yu Sahara, pitched as tense “hide-and-seek” that leans into camouflage, tracking, and survival rather than twitchy deathmatch chaos. Think core Metal Gear systems-camo and cunning-reimagined for multiplayer. Details are still light, but Konami’s messaging stresses it’s a distinct experience, not a retread.
The Silver Lining in the Cardboard Box
The single-player campaign-the reason many of us are here-ships on schedule and is unaffected by the multiplayer delay. Konami has also confirmed the return of the delightfully goofy Secret Theater with new clips alongside the classics. Platform bonuses are back too: Snake vs. Monkey returns on PS5, while Xbox gets Snake vs. Bomberman as its own crossover mode. (PC availability for these extras hasn’t been confirmed.) No one loves a delay, but rushing multiplayer rarely ends well. The campaign lands , and follows in the fall-plenty of time to brush up on CQC and enjoy the story before you start stalking friends in the jungle.
What’s the Verdict?
No one loves a delay, but rushing multiplayer rarely ends well. The campaign lands Aug 28, and Fox Hunt follows in the fall-plenty of time to brush up on CQC and enjoy the story before you start stalking friends in the jungle.
