Tainted Grail's free Fists of Fury DLC makes punching a proper build

Fists of Fury is out now with a new quest, seven fist weapons, fresh gear, and a dedicated skill tree. Patch 1.30 also adds Xbox Play Anywhere and two Steam Deck graphics presets.

Swords are optional in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon now. The free Fists of Fury DLC turns unarmed combat into a complete build instead of a challenge run held together by stubbornness.

The DLC is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It arrives alongside patch 1.30, which adds Xbox Play Anywhere support, new Steam Deck graphics presets, and another round of fixes.

How to start Fists of Fury

The new quest begins in the Horns of the South, where a mysterious hermit claims to know the meaning of life and, more usefully, how to beat a bear without a sword. Impressing him opens a questline built around his lessons. Questline warns that those lessons will take players beyond the starting region.

The reward is a real unarmed progression path. Fists of Fury adds seven Fistfighting Weapons, including the starter Brawler's Gloves and later options built around critical hits, stamina recovery, poison, chill, or fire. They occupy a weapon slot, but their attacks still count as Unarmed. Existing bonuses continue to work, so the game is not quietly asking you to throw away the rest of your build.

The skill tree matters more than the joke

A new branch under Strength supports the playstyle with armor breaks, stuns, wider parry timing, cheaper attack chains, and bonuses after a dash. Matching armor and jewelry can improve attack speed, reward consecutive hits, or restore health. This is enough machinery for an actual character build, not one novelty pair of gloves dropped into a loot table.

There is one housekeeping detail for returning players. Patch 1.30 resets and refunds every skill point previously spent in the Unarmed category because the tree has been rebuilt. Check your skills before walking into the next fight. Your old allocation will not still be there.

The seven weapons also push the build in different directions. Unbroken Motion raises critical chance as a combo continues. Patient Grasp converts part of physical damage into stamina. Bitter Lesson, Still Touch, and Charred Discipline apply poison, chill, and burn respectively, then reward fighting groups affected by those elements. In plain English: punching can now carry a character through more than the opening hours.

Patch 1.30 brings practical changes too

Xbox Play Anywhere is now supported, allowing Xbox owners to carry saves and achievements between console and PC. Questline says no extra purchase is required for existing Xbox owners.

Steam Deck players get two dedicated presets. Quality targets roughly 30 frames per second, while Performance targets 35 to 40. Those are the developer's targets, not our own test results. Questline also claims broader performance and stability gains across every platform, with the largest improvements expected on PC and Steam Deck.

Other PC changes include FSR upscaling, separate controls for grass density and vegetation quality, and a longer maximum draw distance. The patch also fixes the black screen in the Steam Deck version of Sagremor, several overlapping UI elements, AZERTY rebinding problems, and a bug that reset difficulty when restoring default settings.

If you already have an Unarmed character, open the skill screen first and spend the refunded points. Everyone else can find the hermit in the Horns of the South. The bear has not been consulted.
