Last Epoch Season 5: what changed and what 1.5.1.1 fixed

Season 5 adds Morditas encounters, a new pinnacle boss, three skills and faction reworks. The launch stumbled, but three rapid updates have already repaired several player-blocking bugs.

Current status, verified October 4, 2026: Last Epoch Season 5 is live on PC, and 1.5.1.1 is the newest official client update we could verify. Install it before playing. It fixes loading freezes in Caves, Tombs and Cemeteries, incomplete Rage of Morditas gauntlets, and two Yrun problems. It does not turn the season's rough launch into a clean one, but the first three updates have removed several nasty failure points.

This is the short version of a changelog large enough to qualify as endgame content. Season 5, Rage of the Frostborn, adds a kill-chain encounter called Rage of Morditas, a new boss ladder, three class skills and major changes to both item factions. It launched on October 1, then immediately ran into server trouble that made the game difficult or impossible to play for many players. Game director Mike Weicker called that failure the studio's responsibility.[1]

What Season 5 adds

Rage of Morditas can appear from Chapter 2 onward and inside Monolith Echoes. Touching a Blood Crystal starts a timed hunt. Kills extend the clock and build up to five Bloodrage Charges, while each charge grants one of 28 temporary buffs. When time expires, the enemies return for a gauntlet. Survive it and the reward crystal lets you claim an item or spend charges to manipulate the next selection through Bloody and Frozen Rituals.[2]

The reward system has a useful wrinkle for crafters. Season 5 items from this activity can carry Blood or Ice Forging Potential. Blood raises the chance of a critical crafting success, while Ice can preserve Forging Potential during a craft. Your unused charges vanish after the encounter, but the reward choices stay until you claim or reroll them.

Morditas also has an endgame track inside the Monolith of Fate. Completing seasonal encounters opens three related Echoes and eventually the Circle of Frozen Blood boss fight. A separate pinnacle Woven Echo, Demigod's Ascendance, requires 400 Corruption. Patch 1.5.1 enabled pinnacle Morditas for Legacy and offline characters, so those players are no longer excluded from that part of the season.[3]

Three new skills give old characters a reason to respec

Paladins get Radiant Lance, a shield-based spell that scales with uncapped block chance and can be converted to fire or void. Shamans can summon a permanent Tide Elemental, with branches for cold, lightning and physical damage. Bladedancers get Dreamslash, a low-cost melee movement attack that can pull Shadows into the strike.

Those are full skill trees, not borrowed seasonal powers. That makes them the most durable part of this update. Returning players can try new builds without waiting for the Morditas loop to appear, although a proper build recommendation needs more than two days of launch-week theorycrafting. We are not going to staple an untested "best build" label onto three new trees and hope nobody notices.

The item factions got less annoying

Merchant's Guild members can now buy any equippable item type without grinding through rank gates. The Bazaar also has price suggestions based on sale history, better filters and optional automatic price reductions. Early-season suggestions may be thin because the market needs transaction history before it can estimate anything useful.

Circle of Fortune players can select prophecy rewards directly, then use lenses to narrow the result by item type, subtype, class requirement or Weaver's Will. EHG also broadened many prophecy objectives so players can complete them in more kinds of content. Both reworks attack friction rather than inventing another currency, which is a relief in an ARPG already carrying enough nouns.

What broke at launch

The October 1 launch suffered a server incident. EHG did not publish a technical breakdown in its initial statement, but Weicker said the team understood the new issue and had restored service. The outage also compromised the First Blood Race because some competitors lost progress or could not play. EHG chose not to restart the event, saying that doing so would require an experimental mass data migration and another period of downtime.[1]

That distinction matters: the studio acknowledged a broad online service failure, while the patch notes document specific client and gameplay defects. We found no official claim that every launch problem is gone. Offline mode remained available through Steam's launch settings during the planned pre-season downtime, but offline and online characters are separate. Do not switch modes expecting the same character to follow you.

What 1.5.0.1, 1.5.1 and 1.5.1.1 fixed

UpdatePlayer-facing fixesAction
1.5.0.1Fixed intermittent login failure for players using Turkish language settings. Stopped the Blood Crystal reward menu from disappearing before a reward was selected.Update if either problem affected you.
1.5.1Enabled pinnacle Morditas for Legacy and offline characters. EHG also lists fixes across Circle of Fortune and Merchant's Guild in the full notes.Legacy and offline endgame players need this branch.
1.5.1.1Fixed brief loading freezes and black textures in Caves, Tombs and Cemeteries. Fixed Morditas gauntlets that could spawn too few monsters to finish. Fixed Yrun appearing outside Empowered Monoliths and creating invisible damage zones. This update requires a new client download.

The first hotfix was small but important. A missing reward panel can erase the payoff from the season's main activity, while a locale-dependent login bug can lock a player out before the game starts.[4] Version 1.5.1.1 goes after the next layer of irritation: loading hitches, broken gauntlets and invisible boss damage. It also prevents three high-level uniques from dropping below zone level 80.[5]

What to do before your next session

  1. Let Steam finish the client update. EHG says 1.5.1.1 requires an updated client. If Steam has queued it, do not launch around the download.
  2. Confirm the version on the login screen. This article was checked against 1.5.1.1 on October 4. A later hotfix should take priority over this snapshot.
  3. Retry the affected zones and gauntlets. Caves, Tombs, Cemeteries and incomplete Morditas encounters are named directly in the 1.5.1.1 notes.
  4. Report reproducible bugs with F8. EHG asks players to use the in-game report tool and include details. A screenshot, zone name and steps are more useful than "game broke."
  5. Keep online and offline expectations separate. Patch 1.5.1 opened pinnacle Morditas to offline characters, but it did not merge offline progress into online play.

If you are returning for the season, the new encounter and faction changes are the reasons to reinstall. The launch outage is the reason not to schedule your whole weekend around a fresh ARPG season. That lesson is hardly unique to Last Epoch; our piece on why live-service endgames keep swallowing the rest of the game gets into the larger design pressure. For nearby genre context, see our critical review of Path of Exile 2 and the earlier Diablo 4 class-buff breakdown.

For now, 1.5.1.1 is the sensible floor. Update first, then make Morditas regret bringing a timer to an ARPG.
